Al-Shimal clay brick factory is performing a full-scale reconstruction of its existing plant by installing a new kiln and dryer with new loading and unloading systems.
This project is done by the KAT group and is the third project for SABO S.A. in the North part of Iraq, in the region of Kurdistan. The first two were the 800 tons plant II of Halabja Group that was delivered in 2014 and the phased reconstruction of the plant I of the same group.
At this project, emphasis has been given on installing a new dryer and kiln while the existing preparation machines will be used after certain renovations and specific improvements. To avoid calcination and problems created by calcium, the factory will mostly prepare the clay through dry crushing.
The factory has been redesigned completely to be equipped with a totally new kiln of 1.120 m2 net coverage that is specially designed to fire clays with high amounts of calcium carbonate. Kiln engineering has been based on firing curves and laboratory tests that are targeting high compressive strength and color for grade A bricks.
The new Tunnel dryer is the SABO S.A. even flow dryer that is designed to aim at a uniform ventilation and drying of the ceramic products. Due to this modern and efficient concept that has been proven successfully in other SABO plants, drying times are estimated at around 15 hours, even for the more demanding standard Iraqi bricks (240x115x75 MM).
Overall, with this new modernization investment, the KAT group will solve past production issues and target a rebound after a long absence from the market.
The project has already started and currently the traditional kiln is built as shown in the pictures below.
