SABO Research & Development Team continues its research activities on the brick and roofing tile industry sector, conducting an important study in collaboration with the School of Mining Engineering and Metallurgy of National Technical University of Athens.
The study was performed in the laboratory on a pilot scale involving a simulation of the brick forming stage, in particular, the clay extrusion in real factory conditions, with the main purpose of recording how the extrusion pressure affects the final product in combination with the percentage of expanded perlite added to the mass. The results were published at the Journal of Composites Science (MDPI) with title “Effect of Expanded Perlite in the Brick Mixture on the Physicochemical and Thermal Properties of the Final Products”.
The SABO laboratory remains highly active in the field of clay analysis and has expanded the activities to tailormade services like facility diagnostics and upgrades studies. More than 250 clay studies for 48 different countries were implemented by SABO S.A. clay laboratory the past 8 years gaining valuable insight for the projects to be implemented, guiding the customers in the selection of appropriate raw materials and thus creating value for their investments.
The ability to utilize a big database of laboratory results that can be directly associated to the actual industrial process outcome is an invaluable tool in designing, specifying, and appropriately dimensioning manufacturing lines or upgrades.
